Filipino Cultural Dance Programs for Adults and Youth
in the Raleigh/Durham Area of North Carolina

What is Mabuhay Movement?

Mabuhay Movement is the official cultural dance ensemble of the Philippine American Association of North Carolina (PAANC). The ensemble includes both an adult and youth group of performers.

As the artistic heartbeat of an organization EST. 1984, this group is dedicated to preserving and sharing the vibrant heritage of the Philippines through the power of traditional dance.

More than just a performing arts troupe, the Mabuhay Movement serves as a premier educational platform. We believe that every movement tells a story, and our mission is to ensure those stories are never lost. In every rehearsal and performance, we focus on:

  • Historical Context: We educate our dancers and audiences on the history of each dance, exploring its regional origins and the cultural evolution that shaped it.

  • Symbolic Significance: Our programs delve into the meaning behind traditional attire and the specific social or spiritual significance of the choreography.

  • Cultural Ambassadorship: As a key feature of the International Festival (IFR), the Annual Gala, and the Barrio Fiesta, the Mabuhay Movement acts as a living bridge between the diverse traditions of the Philippines and the North Carolina community.

By joining the Mabuhay Movement, you are not just learning a dance; you are becoming a steward of a 40-year legacy of PAANC cultural pride.

The Mabuhay Movement Rundown

Our dance groups for both adults and youth gather weekly on Sundays for one hour to rehearse and bring the traditional dances of the Philippines to life. Basic folk-dance steps and arm movements are reviewed, as these movements serve as the essential foundation of all our folk dances. Education and the history of these dances are shared during rehearsals, providing every participant with a meaningful glimpse into our Filipino culture.

Our program runs by the semester and tuition covers one semester.
